Message from the staff at Carleton:

Following the fire in the early hours of Saturday morning, although this has been a major blow to the school, we would like to reassure learners, parents and the community that the major curriculum teaching spaces have been saved.

It was however, unfortunate that we did lose a large percentage of our building space. The following areas have been totally destroyed:

· Reception

· Administration offices

· Staff Room

· Learner social areas

· Main school hall

· Dance & drama studios

· Dining facilities

· Kitchens

· 3 computer suites

· Gym

· P.E. changing rooms

· Inclusion support centre

· Toilet facilities

We would like to reassure our learners that any coursework that has been completed to date will not have to be redone. We are putting into place study arrangements at Carleton Grange Community Centre for Year 10 and 11 learners for the upcoming Science & Maths modular examinations, revision sessions and resits.

Learners should use the ‘Curriculum’ link in the left menu to access materials that should be helpful in supporting them in their studies.

The school anticipates having a parents forum to allow all parents to ask questions and receive information. The time and date are to be decided, but will appear on this website as soon as the decision has been made.

Due to health and safety regulations, the school site is not currently safe to enter, and as such, the Local Authority are deploying a security presence on the site to protect members of the public from any risks that may exist.

The school, its staff, and the governors would like to thank Yvette Cooper MP, members of the local community and Parish for their kind messages of support.

Remember, keep an eye on the school website for the most up to date information!

Please read this!

As you are aware from the media and seeing the school itself, Carleton Community High School in Pontefract has suffered extensive fire damage to its buildings early morning last Saturday.

I have been asked to set up this blog to give out information and try to answer any questions learners, parents or local residents will have.

The important thing to remember is the school isn't just the buildings, it is the people as well.

Please keep an eye on the school website for details about when the school will reopen and when learners are required to attend lessons again.
